UNITED FRISSIONS - Prologue & Bio
This is the prologue of a poem submitted by the Edinburgh legend Rodney Relax -
Rodney Relax has been living and working in Edinburgh since 1992. In 1994,he co-founded (along with Edinburgh College Of Art teacher, Jonathan Harker) The Yellow Cafe which initially began as a little poetry club on Edinburgh’s High St, but evolved into a forum for DJs & filmmakers; they also got the students involved to create installations, inspired by the work of writers and poets. They soon moved premises to Negociants and then the Assembly Rooms on George St. The club ran for 7yrs and still inspires people today. In between all this activity, Rodney also formed Shellsuit Massacre with Nicky Melville and Northern Upland Sheep Strategy with Martin O’Donnell.

Circumspectly picking their way
past the prostrate figures
without a flicker of surprise
postmen food rations
ladies. there were
sign~posts which
assumed the form
of wood carvings
on which mirthful
officials beckoned to
Jewellers along with criminal
looking characters carrying
bundles of swag
socialists were put
up against the wall
while captive audiences in
crowded open-air cafes
screamed abuse at them
2,000 people formed
up in procession
behind carts on which
paramilitary thugs took
girls through the streets
in the manner
of medieval times
